NaRobia’s is said to have some of the best shrimp and grits in town. With only seven tables inside, they keep them full. This is a neighborhood hole-in-the-wall breakfast joint. “Shrimp and grits” is not a menu item as such; it’s called smothered shrimp and comes with grits or potatoes, two eggs, and a biscuit or toast.

The grits are delicious, even if nothing special—like I grew up with in Indiana. They are covered with eight medium shrimp smothered in rich brown gravy. The eggs are perfect over-medium and topped with a dry Southern spice mix. But the biscuit. This might be the best biscuit I’ve ever had.

The only thing keeping NaRobia’s from the top spot is its simplicity. The elevated gastronomy of so many other local places is too much to ignore. But dollar for dollar, this rivals anything, anywhere. The entire dish was $10.
